Thanksgiving Holiday Getaway

pretty skies

Thanksgiving is a wonderful excuse, to over indulge in just about everything.  I truly believe that we should be thankful all year long, and not just on one day.  People should make the effort to see their family and friends more often.  Call me crazy, but I enjoy that warm and fuzzy feeling of good company and great food.   This year, I spent this Thanksgiving with my husband and one of our friends in Las Vegas.

Thursday AM: We started off the day with morning bike to have brunch at Le Grande Orange.  Both of us had the Classic Commuter Sandwich.

Thursday PM:  We started off with a dinner at Switch at The Wynn Encore Hotel, then ended up hanging out at Tryst.

The following night we had dinner at Valentino at The Venetian Hotel, then went to see Le Reve at The Wynn Encore Hotel.  During the daytime, my husband and I walked the strip over to Bellagio, to enjoy a hearty fare at Noodles, inside the Bellagio Hotel.  On the final night before our flight back to LA, we dined at Sushi Samba at the Palazzo, and squeezed in some time at the Black Jack tables & penny slots.

$1700 later, some cute pictures, and lots of great memories, we’re now back home.  Do enjoy some of my random photos from the trip.

Sanrio 50th Anniversary Event

IMG_0308

Earlier this evening I met up with Young, Trung, and some friends to check out the Sanrio 50th Anniversary event, at the Santa Monica Barker Hanger.  Last year, Young and I attended the Hello Kitty Birthday celebration at Royal T in Culver City, and that was tons of fun.

First off, parking was $10, and it was pretty empty when I arrived at 8pm.  Yes, I know it is a weekday, but the HK Birthday event last year had lines going down the street everyday.

I will probably get mauled by HK and Sanrio fans for saying this, but this years concept was cute, but the event was pretty boring and lifeless.  For such a huge space, they only had a small section of activities and carnival type games.  The mini golf and mini ferris wheel were cute, but definitely aimed towards the 10-16 age group.  The pop up store featured not so exciting gift items, to include plush dolls, resuable bags, erasers, and other overpriced knick knacks.  Honestly, you can find a better selection of cute items at any regular Sanrio store.

The art selection was quite bleak, compared to the creative pieces they showcased at Royal T the previous year.  There were a couple of pieces that stood out was the piece that looked like a painting, but was made entirely of jelly beans!   If you missed this event, trust me, you really didn’t miss out on much!

Hope you enjoy some photos I snapped from the event.

Holy Rollers Indie Film Exclusive Movie Screening

My dear friend Trisha, invited me to an exclusive movie screening for Holy Rollers the other night.  It turned out to be a really good indie film, and I highly recommend watching when it comes out on DVD in less than 1 week.

Holy Rollers was an awesome movie. Got a chance to meet the director Kevin Asch, and actors Justin Bartha and Danny Abeckaser.

Shabu, 3 amigos, and a couple of bottles of sake later.

I loooove Shabu, especially when I’m accompanied by some awesome friends.  Last week, the 3 amigos headed out to Cali Shabu for some good times.  For some reason, the sake was flowing all night long.  Everything was perfect, except for my SAD (like SUPER SAD) mushrooms.  Have a look for yourself:

It’s like, they are doing some kind of u-turn.  They looked so sad, I decided to not eat them.  Lame!  Anyways, here are some goofy photos of mi amigos.

That’s Dizzle, looking like a pseudo walrus…and then there’s…

Tour De Cure, “Cycling For A Cause”

Our friend Andy is participating in the Tour De Cure this year, to spread awareness & honor those whose lives have been affected by diabetes. Along with his dedication to cycle along with thousands of others for this noble cause, he has set a goal to fundraise for the event as well. All proceeds will go the American Diabetes Foundation, and your donation is tax deductible.

Small donations would greatly be appreciated. He’s almost at his goal, so every dollar will definitely make a difference.

****UDPATE:  Andy has reached his goal!  If you want to still help towards this cause, your donation is greatly appreciated***

A lovely weekend cruising the Newport Beach Harbor.

In honor of Irene’s birthday, we were all treated to a lovely cruise around the Newport Harbor.  The weather was sunny, warm, and just perfect for cruising the waters in the Duffy.

Upon departing from the dock, our captain side swiped the boat next to us.  Unfortunately, it was a boat full of older people, so they were pretty shocked.  Whoooopsy!

When our captain finally got comfortable, we started to do donuts in the boat.  hahhaa.  Just to let you know, JP was our captain!  At one point during our cruise, the coast guard was tailing us.  It was probably because we pulled a donut, and didn’t realize they were right behind us.  Oh, the joys of cruising and boozing.  Not the captain of course!

Pretty view from the waiting area @ Duffy rentals.

We took one of these bad boys out to sea. Ok, well not all the way out!

Pretty homes lined the harbor. Most of them had their own personal dock. Very cool.

My good friend DJ Mia, really needs your vote! She really deserves winning this competition on KISS FM, because aside from her awesome dj’ing skills, she’s sweet, humble, and selfless.

Sake, Champagne, Black Jack, and JP (another 24 hrs in Vegas)

Some flock to Vegas for the women, clubs, and for a wild time, however I went for an entirely different reason.  I just loss a very important person in my life, and to be honest, I’m just heart broken.  Feeling sad, restless, and just lost, I needed to go to a place that had flashing lights, sights, and constant sounds to keep me sane.  My love JP & I, found a flight and headed to the airport within hours after we booked.  Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a dear friend.  Here is a recap of our 24 hrs. in Vegas.

It started with Sake & dinner over @Sushi Samba.

Fresh diced mangos inside a honey ginger wonton crisp & Yuzu ice cream

A sea of fresh cranberries floated on a bed of water @ Palazzo in the great foyer. It was festive, bold, and just beautiful.

Close up of the cranberries.

Pizza was a must, at Mario Batali's famed San Marco restaurant...(the view from our table)

Admiring the beauty of the Venetian, before hitching a ride back home.

Hitched a ride back on the G4.

Dinner consisted of crab legs, lobster tail, shrimp cocktail, mini sandwiches, beef chow fun, dim sum, and mini desserts. It was one of the best meals I've ever had in the sky!

We <3 Shabu Shabu

It’s been awhile since I’ve been back in the OC.  I finally got a chance to meet up with some friends for a shabu shabu dinner.  There’s a really cool spot next to Shark’s in Costa Mesa called California Shabu and it’s really yummy.

This shabu spot, has Kid Robot-ish toys all over the walls. I love it!

How cute is this?!

I heart Wednesdays!

As of late, I seem to be having way more fun on Wednesdays, then I do on weekends. I guess not having a 9 to 5 gig, makes everyday fair game!

I was in SF last week, so didn’t get a chance to venture out, but this week I decided to do something different.

I had my friend over for dinner, I made spaghetti with a side caesar salad and garlic bread. And for dinner, my girlfriend brought over some fabulous desserts from Chantilly Patisserie. Take a look for yourself…

=) so cute and yummy.

=) so cute and yummy...p.s. thank you for the lovely plate, Trisha!

she picked out 6 desserts for us to share after dinner...so thoughtful!

I’m not much a dessert kind of gal, but these mini desserts were delicious! Japanese desserts are usually less sweet and packed with flavor. They always look so dainty and appetizing. =)

After dinner & desserts @ home, we drove over to Katsuya for some drinks. Things were pretty mellow this Wednesday, but it was really fun. Hope to do it again sometime. Thanks for the awesome desserts Young!!!

BeverLiz…a really great lunch spot.

After running some errands yesterday with JP, we were craving Urth Cafe, but decided to go with something different. Cruising the mean streets of Bev. Hills, we stumbled across a cute street side cafe called BeverLiz. One look at their menu, and I was sold!!! I love kabobs, wraps, and greek salads, so this was the place for me!

I ended up ordering a Chicken & Artichoke Pressed Wrap, which features a toasted wheat lavosh wrap.  It’s basically like a panini, except they used lavosh bread instead.  My lunch selection came out with a side of Greek salad, and everything on my plate was sooo delicious!

JP ordered up the low carb Shish Kabob special with chicken, and that was extremely good as well.  This is definitely a place I will frequent, whenever I’m in the area.

We <3 Farmers Market!

Virtually every Sunday, JP and I truck it on down to the local Farmer’s Market for some fresh fruits and veggies. In addition to the produce section, there are also food vendors that whip up some good stuff like breakfast burritos, roasted corn, fresh juices, and crispy crepes! Going to the Farmers Market is always a treat!!!!

Yep, you're looking @ the bike valet for the Farmers Market!!! Pretty cool, huh?

After countless referrals to check out WURST, JP and I buckled and had to see what all the commotion was about. Needless to say, it was a sausage and beer kind of date, even though we didn’t drink beer. hahaha.
